These self-destructing amphibians' sole purpose is anti-mass. toads are a must if your opponent is amassing ground units, particularly if it is with a heavy T1 composition. Though it's usually ok to just have the toads blow on the first enemy they come in contact with, it may be more beneficial to force them to move into a better spot to catch more in their blast radius. Due to their high single target damage, they are also ideal for taking down structures or high value targets (if you can get to them).

Description

The Morning Light Croakers, (aka "toads") are the zealots of the Morning Light cult. They show off their explosive devotion to their faith in an AoE explosion by lighting the dynamites attached to their backs, only moments before they seem to regret their bombardant display.

Counters

Toads main weakness is their lack of range and speed, which make them particularly vulnerable to ranged and air units.

Tier 1 Options

  • Toads: If you have less toads, you're taking out more with less. It's a value thing.
  • Squirrels: If you can kite them, you can mow down toads before they can get close to you, but be careful as one misstep could be the end of your squirrel army.

Tier 2 Options

  • Falcons: As toads aren't able to hit air, falcons can cull the toads before they get close to anything else.
  • Snakes: Snake only need one stack of venom to kill off toads, so if you can tag one and start running, they'll die before they catch up to you.

Tier 3 Options

  • Fox: Toads lack the range of a squirrel and the mobility of a lizard making them easy picking for the fox. (some micro required)
  • Owl: Mice can detonate toads essentially for free as it doesn't cost you anything but time to get mice.
  • Badger: Toad and badger have the same speed so if you can micro your badger perfectly, you won't take a single hit (micro required)

Structure Options

  • Barbed Wire: Toads can't attack barbed wires, making them easier to kill before they blow up something.
  • Sniper Balloon: sniper balloons can pick off a few toads making their numbers easier to deal with.
